I have worked in the Performing Arts sector for 20 years and originally trained as a sound designer & composer in theatre before moving into production and completing a M.A in Arts Management in 2004. My most recent post prior to joining the British Council was as Projects Manager for Sadler’s Wells where I worked on the theatre’s in-house productions & international tours.
When I joined the British Council in 2009, it was as Programme Manager for Theatre & Dance and my role was to develop culturally sensitive performing art activities in the regions I had responsibility for (Latin America, Africa and the European Union) by liaising with a network of innovative British & international arts practitioners. I also advised organisations and Ministries of Culture on strategies for international development. In 2017, I changed roles and I am now Senior Programme Manager for sub Saharan Africa Arts Group and recently was a key contributor to the strategic development and management of the British Council sub-Saharan Africa “Art Connects Us” programme, a three-year, £3.6 million-pound project. Working in collaboration with partners and colleagues in Literature, Performance, Music, Film, Architecture, Design and Fashion across the Council’s nineteen offices on the continent, I design programmes which increase the knowledge, networks and opportunities for contemporary African arts professionals and their peers in the UK and beyond. I provide the connection for our international partners to the UK creative sectors and I can draw upon my wide-ranging knowledge of contemporary arts practices and networks to provide specialist advice, participating directly to project design, implementation, management and evaluation.
